EVOLVING TOWARDS
A MORE ETHICAL FUTURE

A fresh mindset for a truly innovative model in the steel industry — transparent, sustainable, and built to deliver real value.

Over the years, a one-of-a-kind organization like Compagnia delle Ghise has grown richer in knowledge, experience, and connections—gathering an immense amount of data from both Italy and abroad related to the steel and foundry sectors. Over time, this data has evolved into a clear vision.
Many of the critical issues and challenges faced daily in the industry could be improved—or even resolved—if the market were approached with a new mindset and a fresh perspective.

The idea we are working on is to create a platform where all industry players—producers, suppliers, and logistics entrepreneurs—can gain maximum benefit by eliminating unnecessary costs, energy, and resources, while optimizing the supply chain through a fully certified, ethical, and sustainable process.
It’s a new way of thinking and experiencing the industry, placing transparency at the center, guided by the beacon of ethics rather than speculation.

The two pillars
of the new
platform

Procurement

The collaboration would allow participants to source directly from producers, effectively removing competition between intermediaries. This would not only lead to a new pricing logic, but also ensure full traceability of materials — eliminating the risk, both current and likely, of moral and material errors. Moreover, a direct relationship between buyer and producer would guarantee the purchase of only the volumes actually needed.

Logistics

A shared intent would make it possible to interact directly with port warehouses, taking control of unloading and storage operations. The following phase — the return of materials — could also be managed with a new awareness, encouraging the use of rail transport over road transport for greater sustainability.

THE ADVANTAGES OF WORKING TOGETHER

Economic

By reducing costs and minimizing risk, while improving product and service quality and traceability, participants can avoid potential negative fallout. Leveraging collective purchasing power would allow for privileged agreements with suppliers, ensuring consistent volumes and reliable quality over the medium to long term, while discouraging speculative imports. An integrated logistics system—including warehousing, storage, and both maritime and land transport—would also help stabilize and optimize pricing.

Environmental

Imported material volumes would be carefully aligned with the actual consumption needs of participating members, ensuring clear advantages for both producers—who can streamline their operations—and buyers, who benefit from consistent, high-quality supply based on pre-defined standards. To significantly reduce the environmental impact throughout the entire supply chain, efforts can focus on partnering with producers committed to low-CO₂ processes and renewable energy, improving the efficiency of purchasing, logistics, transportation, and distribution, and prioritizing the use of strategically located storage hubs near key rail connections. This would allow a gradual but decisive shift from road to rail transport, resulting in a significantly lower overall environmental footprint.

Ethical / Social

A new way of doing business—placing ethics and fair commercial practices at the core—would enhance the credibility and reputation of all participating companies. This shift would not only strengthen trust within the network, but also attract new potential partners drawn to a transparent, forward-thinking model.

Transparency
and Responsibility

CDG could draft a Code of Ethics and a Charter of Values to provide all members with clear guidelines and standards of conduct, ensuring long-term ethical consistency throughout the supply chain.

These documents would also include specific sections highlighting initiatives and behaviors to adopt or avoid. In the first case, members would receive recognition and support from the association; in the second, they would be encouraged to promptly align with the shared guidelines.
